Will Giants’ Darius Slayton surgery revelation keep him out of training camp?
The New York Giants will be heading into a new era this upcoming season with John Harbaugh as the head coach. The expectation has always been to win, but with a person like Harbaugh in the building, the standard may be high as ever.
The Giants have already made moves in free agency and the offseason to improve their roster, and they also have some players returning. Darius Slayton is one returnee, and he recently had surgery that could keep him out for some time, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
“Giants WR Darius Slayton recently underwent surgery for a core-muscle injury, sources tell me and [Ian Rapoport]. Slayton will miss the spring but is expected to be a full go for training camp,” Garafolo wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Slayton was the WR2 for the Giants last season, and finished with 37 catches for 538 yards and a touchdown in 14 games. He had to step up when Malik Nabers went down with an ACL injury in October. As of now, it looks like both Slayton and Nabers will be sidelined during the summer for the Giants.
The Giants knew they were going to fill some holes in that area, and they selected Malachi Fields in the third round of the NFL Draft. In free agency, they signed Calvin Austin III, Darnell Mooney, and Isaiah Hodgins.
They’re also still looking for help, and they hosted Odell Beckham Jr. for a workout and a physical. It’s uncertain if the Giants will welcome back the wide receiver, but he could help them as they deal with several injuries.
There should be some improvement with the Giants’ offense next season, and with Jaxson Dart having a year under his belt, things will only get better for him running an offense; he’ll just have to stay healthy.
