Why Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest is being played at bizarre early time on Monday

Chelsea welcome Nottingham Forest to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League in a unique Monday afternoon kick-off.

This is another key game as Chelsea look to keep up with the European qualification places and Forest strive for survival.

The match had been due to be played on Saturday, May 2 when the fixture list was announced at the start of the season.

Prior to Matchday 35, though, a new date and kick-off time has been confirmed by the Premier League.

When is Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest?

Chelsea welcome Forest to west London on Monday, May 4, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

The unique kick-off time is made possible by it being the Early May Bank Holiday.

Matches moved to Monday are usually scheduled for 8pm as part of Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football programme.

However, Chelsea and Forest’s clash will instead take place earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, Everton host Manchester City in the 8pm slot later on Monday.

The Blues confirmed the match had been moved after being selected for live coverage by Sky Sports.

It was announced in March along with the rest of the television selections for this weekend.

Forest’s trip to Stamford Bridge could not be played earlier than Sunday afternoon due to their European commitments.

Vitor Pereira’s side are in Europa League semi-final action this week.

They host Aston Villa at the City Ground on Thursday, with kick-off at 8pm.

Monday’s clash will be live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.

Coverage of the match begins at 2.30pm ahead of the 3pm kick-off.
