When Glen Durrant will make return to commentary as darts pundit leaves World Championship coverage

Glen Durrant’s commentary and punditry at the PDC World Darts Championship has ended two days before the final.

The three-time BDO World Champion has forged himself a career in the media since walking away from professional darts in 2022.

He’s become a fan favourite, however, he says he will spend the rest of the tournament alongside the fans down the pub.

It was confirmed that Durrant’s commentary of Gary Anderson’s New Year’s Day win over Justin Hood would be his final contribution for Sky at the tournament.

“One more match to commentate tomorrow and then like you watching from home (pub on Saturday) as a fan,” Durrant posted on social media on New Year’s Eve.

“It’s brilliant to still be involved in darts and I love my job. Happy New Year everyone.”

Durrant’s departure came with five matches remaining of the World Championship with two further quarter-final matches where Luke Littler and Luke Humphries are in action as well as the two semi-finals and the final are to play.

The 55-year-old’s post did cause some confusion among fans about him being gone from broadcasting for good, but thankfully, it won’t be too long until we see him back on our screens.

Glen close to a return

Durrant confirmed to talkSPORT.com that his dulcet tones will be heard on Sky’s Premier League Darts coverage.

The opening night of the Premier League will take place in Newcastle on Thursday February 5.

Who will be taking part in the Premier League will be confirmed later in January, however, Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen are set to automatically qualify.

Jonny Clayton may have squeezed into that final automatic qualifying spot, but his quarter-final exit from Alexandra Palace doesn’t make that a certainty.

The top names in darts anxiously wait to see if they’ve made the cut for the Premier League, but Durrant will definitely be there

Josh Rock is a contender, however, his last 16 exit allows the likes of Gian van Veen, who is still in the Worlds, an opportunity to sneak in.

Magical runs by Ryan Searle and Justin Hood at Ally Pally also put them in contention for a spot.

Disappointing World Championship campaigns for Nathan Aspinall, Stephen Bunting, Rob Cross and Gerwyn Price put them at risk of losing their place in the Premier League.

Glen Durrant’s darts career

The Middlesbrough-born star first started competing in 1985 as a 15-year-old and enjoyed a very successful career on the oche.

He competed in BDO and PDC events, becoming BDO World Champion on three consecutive occasions between 2017-19.

Durrant also won six other BDO major titles the 2018 BDO World Trophy, the World Masters in 2015 and 2016, and the Finder Darts Masters in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
