What is the longest field goal in Super Bowl history? Jason Myers and Andy Borregales eye new record in NFL’s biggest game

New England and Seattle’s kickers, Andy Borregales and Jason Myers, could potentially make history in the Super Bowl this year.

The Patriots and Borregales are taking on the Seahawks and Myers in the NFL’s showpiece in California on February 8.

And the two kickers are sure to have some field goal attempts to try and help their team succeed in the sport’s biggest game.

Both Borregales and Myers have shown they can kick between the posts from some huge distances this season.

But can they do it if called upon by their teams in the Super Bowl?

What is the longest field goal in Super Bowl history?

The longest ever field goal in the Super Bowl was made in 2024.

Kansas City Chiefs‘ Harrison Butker set the record during their 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers two years ago.

Butker kicked through the posts from an incredible 57 yards.

History was actually made twice in the same game too, with the Chiefs kicker instantly breaking Jake Moody’s record.

49ers star Moody set a new all-time Super Bowl high with a 55-yard field goal earlier on in the 2024 showpiece.

Moody also sits fourth in the list of longest field goals, with a 53-yard kick also coming in that same meeting with the Chiefs.

The Buffalo Bills‘ Steve Christie previously held the record for over 30 years after his 54-yard field goal in 1993.

Myers and Borregales’ season best

The 57-yard field goal record is attainable for both kickers in this year’s Super Bowl between the Patriots and Seahawks.

Myers, who has been one of the best kickers in the NFL for the Seahawks, has made 44 field goals this season.

Three of those have come during the postseason, while he’s missed seven kicks throughout the entire campaign.

His longest field goal of the season was a 57-yarder against the Los Angeles Rams, meaning he can kick the record distance.

As for Borregales, he’s missed seven kicks all year for the Patriots, making 31 of 38 attempts, including four in the postseason.

The longest field goal of his campaign has been 59 yards, so he has shown he has the ability to kick further than Butker’s record.

Longest punt in Super Bowl history

The longest punt ever seen in the Super Bowl was achieved by Johnny Hecker in the 2019 game.

Hecker punted the ball 65 yards to help the LA Rams defend against Tom Brady and the Patriots seven years ago.

He cleared from the Rams’ six-yard line to push the Patriots all the way back to their own 29-yard line.

Hecker and his team lost the game, but his kick still stands as the furthest a punt has gone in a Super Bowl.
