West Ham v Sunderland prediction

West Ham head into this weekend’s Premier League clash with Sunderland looking to make it a hat trick of successive victories following wins over QPR and Tottenham in their last two outings.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s victory in the London derby at Tottenham last weekend saw them move to within five points of safety, though didn’t benefit from no other side in the bottom five losing.

Victory keeps the Hammers in 18th place in the Premier League but will be looking to further close the gap on Nottingham Forest this weekend as they bid to climb out of the relegation zone.

The east London side have struggled at home in the league this season, with no team having lost more matches in front of their home fans, though the Irons did manage to win their most recent game at the London Stadium, beating QPR in the FA Cup a fortnight ago.

Sunderland make the long trip down to the capital on Saturday lunchtime having lost only one of their last seven matches in all competitions.

Regis le Bris’ side have won only one of their last six matches in the Premier League, with four of those ending in draws, but the Black Cats have won each of their last two matches when including their penalty shoot out victory over Everton in the FA Cup two weeks ago.

Victory at home over other London opposition in Crystal Palace last weekend saw the Wearside club continue their fantastic first season back in the Premier League, leaving them ninth in the table and only three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.

Sunderland are one of only two teams, along with runaway league leaders Arsenal, yet to taste defeat at home in the Premier League this season.

These two sides last met on the opening day of the current Premier League season, with Sunderland storming to a 3-0 win, which West Ham will be determined for revenge for.

The Black Cats have lost their last three away games against the Hammers, and haven’t beaten the east London side at home in 15 years.

West Ham head into Saturday’s bout as favourites despite being sat in the relegation zone and Sunderland having won each of their last two matches against Premier League opposition.

Nuno is under pressure for his job at West Ham and the Black Cats will likely head to the London Stadium to frustrate the home fans who could grow restless, leading me to believe a 2-1 away win could be on the cards.

West Ham v Sunderland betting tips

Sunderland rock the Hammers

Sunderland head to the London Stadium looking for their third consecutive victory in what’s been a hugely impressive season for the Black Cats, who head into the weekend just three points off the top four.

No Premier League team have lost more games at home this season than the Hammers, who currently sit in the relegation zone, five points from safety.

Bowen back in the goals

Jarrod Bowen has scored more goals this season than any other player in either team, the West Ham captain having scored twice in the Hammers’ last four home league games.

Trai’s name taken

Trai Hume has received more yellow cards than any other player on either team ahead of this weekend’s long trip to the capital, after the Sunderland defender was booked in each of this last three appearances.
