‘We ought not to move forward’ – Emma Raducanu splits from coach after five months
Emma Raducanu has announced her split with coach Francisco Roig.
The women’s British no. 1 joined forces with the Spaniard, who used to coach tennis legend and compatriot Rafael Nadal, in August.

However, the partnership has ended after just five months, with the news coming days after her Australian Open second round exit.
Raducanu: I will cherish the good times
“Francis, Thank you for our time together,” Raducanu said in a story on Instagram.
“You have been more than a coach to me and I will cherish the many good times we spent on and off the court.
“While we have come to the conclusion together that we ought not to move forward, please know that I am very grateful for all you have taught me and fond of our time shared.”
As per The Telegraph, the Raducanu camp have insisted the decision was mutual and they ended on ‘good terms’.
Roig worked with 22-time Grand Slam winner Nadal for much of his illustrious career, before they parted in 2022.
He began working with Raducanu at the 2025 Cincinnati Open, where she reached the third round before defeat to Aryna Sabalenka.
Another third round exit followed at the US Open with a straight-sets loss to Elena Rybakina.
Raducanu then opted to not play at the Billie Jean King Cup finals in September and compete in the Korea Open instead.
But her opponent Barbora Krejcikova saved three match points in their second round match before taking the victory herself.

It was a similar story for the 23-year-old at the China Open as she also had three match points against Jessica Pegula, but lost.
Raducanu began the 2026 season 29th in the women’s singles ranks, and then made a winning start to the Australian Open.
She beat Mananchaya Sawangkaew in straight sets but couldn’t reach the third round as she lost to Anastasia Potapova.
Raducanu is set to return to the court at the Transylvania Open in Romania, which begins on February 1.
The 2021 US Open champion will compete as the first seed.
