Watch Wings’ Azzi Fudd throw 1st pitch at Rangers game

Azzi Fudd is adjusting to her new life in Texas after the Dallas Wings selected her as the top overall pick in this year’s WNBA Draft. She has truly come a long way—figuratively and literally—from her hometown of Fairfax, Virginia.

It will likely not take long for Texas to embrace Fudd, who will team up with Paige Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale, and Maddy Siegrist in trying to lift the Wings back to the playoffs after failing to qualify in back-to-back years.

On Tuesday, Fudd threw the first pitch in the game between the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees at Globe Life Field. It was a cool way to introduce herself to the fans of the Rangers, who are probably not yet familiar with the talented guard.

The 23-year-old Fudd looked a little nervous on the mound, but she made a decent throw, especially compared to the one she made the last time she was given the same honor.

“This pitch was definitely better. I didn’t hit the ground. So, improvement,” said Fudd, as quoted in a report from Connecticut Post’s Declan Walsh.

Fudd also threw the first pitch for the Washington Nationals, her hometown squad, against the Cincinnati Reds at Nationals Park in July. Walsh recalled that Fudd skipped the ball off the home plate.

Perhaps it helped this time that her teammates, including Bueckers, were cheering her on behind the mound.

Still,  Fudd might be better off sticking to basketball.

The former NCAA MOP and national champion will make her much-awaited debut for the Wings on May 12 against the Atlanta Dream.
