Vikings owners finally announce GM search after controversial firing

Three months after firing Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, and four days after the 2026 NFL Draft concluded, the Minnesota Vikings’ owners announced they will finally begin their search for a new general manager.

Since firing Adofo-Mensah, the Vikings have allowed executive president of football operations Rob Brzezinski to call the shots, including leading the team’s 2026 NFL Draft efforts. But with the draft now in the past, owners Mark and Zygi Wilf released a statement confirming they will begin the search for a permanent replacement.

“With the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft, our search for the next general manager of the Minnesota Vikings is underway,” the statement read. “This will be a thorough and deliberate process led by ownership, with support from a small internal advisory committee of senior leaders… Our focus is to identify a decisive leader with a clear vision for team building, strong communication skills and the ability to build alignment across an organization.”

The Vikings stated that they would not be releasing their candidates until the process is over, “out of respect for all involved.” They also confirmed they will seek assistance from the “respected firm” TurnkeyZRG, a sports and entertainment recruitment organization.

The Vikings fired Adofo-Mensah in January, within weeks of the end of their regular season. They did not state any specific reason for the firing other than a lack of improvement in his four years on the job. But if anyone had to read between the lines, ownership did not like seeing 2024 starting quarterback Sam Darnold go on to win a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, while 2025 starter J.J. McCarthy led them to a 9-8 record and missed the playoffs.
