New Zealand opener Finn Allen produced a breathtaking assault in the semi-final of the 2026 T20 World Cup at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on March 4, dismantling South African pacer Corbin Bosch in the final over of the powerplay.

Chasing a competitive target of 170 set by South Africa, thanks largely to Marco Jansen’s blistering unbeaten 55 off just 30 balls, New Zealand needed a strong start. Allen ensured exactly that. Bosch was handed the sixth over, but Allen showed no mercy. The over began with a stunning six, as Allen carved a short-of-a-length delivery over backward point with controlled aggression. On the second ball, he pulled with authority, sending it racing past long-on for four.

The third delivery saw Allen swing hard at one outside off stump, and despite a thick outside edge, the ball flew to the boundary for another four. Bosch then erred by pitching it in the slot, and Allen capitalised brilliantly, belting it straight down the ground past the stumps for yet another boundary.

The fifth ball followed a similar pattern, full and outside off, and once again Allen found the edge, which sped away to the right of short third man for four more. By the end of the over, 22 runs had been plundered, completely shifting the momentum in New Zealand’s favour. At the conclusion of the powerplay, the Kiwis had stormed to 84/0 in six overs, gaining a decisive advantage in their pursuit of 170.
