Victor Wembanyama interview crashed by X-rated outburst after historic performance vs OKC
Victor Wembanyama’s epic night helped the San Antonio Spurs claim victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.
It would need two-lots of overtime before the Spurs claimed victory in one of the greatest playoff games in recent memory.

San Antonio trailed by three points with 27 seconds remaining in the first overtime period when Stephon Castle flipped a pass back to Wembanyama.
In the second overtime period, Wembanyama outscored OKC 9-7, going 3-of-3 from the floor with four rebounds and a block, leading the Spurs to a 122-115 win.
After the game, emotions were running high. While Wemby was trying to conduct an interview with NBC Sports, he invited Castle over who had some appropriate words for the Spurs star.
“The best player in the f****** world,” Castle said.
Castle’s X-rated statement came after Wembyanyama scored 41 points and grabbed 24 rebounds in total.
The loss was the first of the playoffs for the Thunder, who had swept the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers en-route to the conference finals.
“The message would be that we as a team are ready to go into any environment, any place against anybody,” Wembanyama said, via ESPN.
“Even though we’ve still got a lot to learn, our effort should be over everybody else’s. Tonight, we were relentless.”
Wemby set, or tied multiple NBA playoff records in the Spurs win, joining exclusive lists with some of the game’s greatest players.
He became the second NBA player 22 or younger with 40+ points and 20+ rebounds in a playoff game, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who set the record in 1970.

Wemby joined Shaquille O’Neal in achieving 40 points and 20 rebounds in a Conference or NBA Finals game in the last 25 years.
He also is the first player since Charles Barkley in 1993 to have 35+ points and 20 rebounds in a conference finals game.
Additionally, he became the third player in the play-by-play era to record a double-double in the first half of Game 1 of the NBA Conference Finals.
Wemby claims MVP snub inspired record-breaking performance
For the second straight season, the league’s Most Valuable Player award went to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder, who splashed out on watches for his teammates after the news.
Before the game, Gilgeous-Alexander received the award with Wemby, who finished third in voting, present.
Wemby was asked after the game whether his Game 1 performance was a natural response to watching a competitor receive something he wanted.

“Yeah, for sure, everything you just said,” Wemby added.
Spurs head coach, Mitch Johnson further backed his center’s claim up.
“He’s competitive,” Johnson said.
“To see the other competitor [with] the trophy he deserves voted the winner, if you’re a competitor and you see another competitor get rewarded with what you want, that’s motivation.
“We all get motivated by different things, and I don’t want to speak for him. But as a competitive person, that would be my approach and perspective.”
