Tyson Fury responds to concerns over physique ahead of boxing comeback: ‘Never been different’

Tyson Fury has swatted away critics of his physique by pointing out the huge successes of his boxing career.

Fury is gearing up to make his return to the ring this year, for the first time since consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.

Fury attracted the usual trolls online, who took aim at his physique as he is preparing for his return

Before he announced he would be reversing his decision to retire, Fury garnered the attention of fans by sharing fresh training footage.

The comment section quickly filled with fans pointing out their concerns over his bulky physique.

Fury has since posted a video addressing the reaction to his current shape, reminding fans he has always been on the heavier side.

He said: “Just doing a nice bit of chilling out before the second session of the day, working very hard for this return.

“The Gypsy King is not taking this lightly whatsoever.

“Read a few comments, [saying that] I’m looking a bit hench, tubby, fat. Welcome to my world. Never been any different.

“Beat everybody with a fat belly. Never been any different.

“Never made any odds before. Why should it make any odds today?

“I’m weighing about 20 stone at the moment, probably get down to around about under 19 maybe for the comeback. Nice and loose and fast.

“Really looking forward to it. Been away for a while, but I’m back now.

Fury captioned the post: “Real talk, I’m so serious about my return to boxing, I’m the uncrowned king 2026 is return of the MAC”[/caption]

“I had a year out, and if I box in the first quarter, it could be up to 16 months out of the ring, so yeah.

“It’s a long time for a man 37 years old, 38 this year. Let’s see if I still got it.”

Fury tipped the scales at 281lbs in his last outing against Usyk, but is vowing to come in somewhere around the 266lbs mark when we next see him in action.

Throughout his career, the former two-time world champion has faced critics of his shape, but he has silenced doubters by beating some of the greatest rivals of his generation.

What is Tyson Fury’s comeback plan?

While his exact opponents remain unknown, Fury is out to challenge the biggest names upon his return.

From the freshly crowned WBO world heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley to long-term rival Anthony Joshua, Fury is being linked to several heavy hitters for later in the year.

But he has suggested that any big-name clashes will not take place until later in 2026 when he has worked away any ring rust.

He will first likely take on a lower ranked heavyweight in a tune-up comeback, with Arslanbek Makhmudov being floated as a suitable opponent for the ‘Gypsy King’.
