Timberwolves’ Chris Finch gushes about Mavericks’ Anthony Davis amid brutal injury

The Minnesota Timberwolves visited the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Wednesday, looking to gain more momentum after recently snapping their five-game skid.

The Timberwolves are coming off a victory against the Golden State Warriors, 108-83, on Monday. Minnesota played without Anthony Edwards, while Golden State did not have Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green.

While Edwards has returned to action, Dallas is still missing Anthony Davis. The oft-sidelined star is out for at least one more month due to a hand injury.

Timberwolves coach Chris Finch is fully aware that the Mavericks are handicapped without Davis, who has only played 20 games this season, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.6 blocks.

“Amazing player. One of my favorites,” said Finch, as quoted by NBA insider Marc Stein.

Stein added: “Finch coached Davis in New Orleans and said he rated AD as the league’s top pick-and-roll defender among bigs until Victor Wembanyama’s arrival.”

Was Finch hinting at trying to acquire the 32-year-0ld Davis before the trade deadline? Probably not. But a reunion in Minnesota could be beneficial for both of them.

Finch was an assistant coach of the Pelicans from 2017 to 2020, with Davis serving as the team’s centerpiece.

The Mavericks are reportedly shopping around Davis, but his injury history and huge contract could be off-putting for some teams. Still, he is one of the league’s players when healthy.

As for the Timberwolves, Julius Randle could be on the move, even though Finch has often touted his significance to the team with his all-around skill set.
