This LPGA Tour season is all about Hyo Joo Kim so far

Stop me if you have heard this before: Hyo Joo Kim won on the LPGA Tour.

You actually have heard this before. In fact, you heard it last week. What’s more is you heard it after this very tournament, the Ford Championship, last year.

Hyo Joo Kim won in consecutive weeks and in the process defended her Ford Championship title. That is a pretty spectacular week’s worth of work.

It should come as no surprise that Hyo Joo Kim is anticipated to move from second to first in the Race to CME Globe. She is the lone player on the LPGA Tour to record multiple wins this season and as a result the season has been defined by her so far.

Part of what made this victory so impressive was that Nelly Korda was hunting down Hyo Joo Kim for the title. In fact, this marked the second straight event/week where this was the case.

Interestingly, Hyo Joo Kim and Nelly Korda finished in first and second place in back-to-back events/weeks. This marks the first time the same two LPGA Tour players finished 1-2 in consecutive weeks since 2001 when Annika Sorenstam and Se Ri Pak did it.

The LPGA Tour is having itself quite the moment. Let’s see what it does next.
