The Tigers player Jon Morosi believes must start MLB All-Star Game

The Detroit Tigers have struggled mightily in 2026, holding a 29-40 record entering Friday. But at least one player has taken the MLB world by storm.

Dillon Dingler has been one of the Tigers’ lone bright spots this season. Jon Morosi of MLB Network believes the catcher’s efforts should make him the American League’s starting catcher in the MLB All-Star Game.

“Dillon Dingler should start in the All-Star Game,” Morosi wrote. “He leads all MLB catchers in WAR, per Fangraphs, and has been the @Tigers MVP this year.”

Through his first 62 games in 2026, Dingler is hitting .254 with 16 home runs and an American League-leading 49 RBIs. His 16 home runs ranks third amongst all catchers and is just one behind Shea Langeliers of the Athletics.

Dingler showed a glimpse of his potential during the 2025 season, hitting .278 with 13 home runs and 57 RBIs over 126 games. He has almost reached those doubles in nearly half the time. Still only 27-years-old and under team control through 2031, the backstop is working his way into a long-term role with the Tigers.

In terms of his competition for starting the All-Star Game, his biggest competition for starting the game will come from Langeliers. Over his first 62 games, the backstop is hitting .283 with 17 home runs and 35 RBIs.

At the very least, both players should be All-Stars. Who will end up getting the starting nod is still yet to be seen. If it were up to Morosi though, Dingler would be behind the plate. Based off of his 2026 season thus far, Tigers fans would have to agree with that take.
