Tennessee Volunteers land 4-star OT over Virginia Tech

Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers have added a boost to the trenches for the future, earning the commitment of lineman Q’Mari Hudson.

Hudson announced his pledge to the Volunteers on Saturday, per On3 insider Hayes Fawcett. Hailing from Chesapeake, Virginia, he chose the program over the Virginia Tech Hokies among other quality schools. Those offers include the likes of Kentucky, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Maryland, N.C. State, Pitt and a handful of others.

“No shortcuts. No excuses. Just work,” Hudson said to Fawcett.

Hudson stands out as a three-star lineman with an 89 score on 247Sports. He ranks 10th among players from the state of Virginia and 46th among players at his position. His composite score of 0.8945 puts him in four-star territory, ranking ninth, 40th and 393rd nationally in those respective categories.

Hudson is Tennessee’s 15th commitment of the class. He joins 4-star linebacker Kenneth Simon to commit to Tennessee on Saturday, with the Volunteers starting to get a little traction going in the cycle. Hudson is the second offensive lineman to commit to Tennessee in this class, joining 4-star tackle Princeton Uwaifo.

What’s next for Tennessee after landing Q’Mari Hudson

It’s a quality pickup for Josh Heupel and Tennessee to bring to the offensive line. Q’Mari Hudson brings solid production with his blocking and pass protection, showing great potential for the Volunteers.

Heupel prepares for Year 6 of his stint with the Volunteers. He boasts a 45-20 record, seeing the team go 24-16 in SEC matchups throughout his time with the program so far.

2025 was an intriguing season for the program. Tennessee finished with an 8-5 overall record, going 4-4 in conference play. This saw them finish at ninth place out of 16 teams in the SEC standings. They ended the season with a 30-28 loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini in the Music City Bowl.
