Wednesday football tips

Southampton to win at West Brom @ 7/5

Timing is everything in football and Southampton might just have got their spot on if promotion is the end game.

Relegated last summer, the Saints have taken their time to get going back in the Championship but now they are purring.

Tonda Eckert’s men are unbeaten in the league in the last eight – with 20 points taken from a possible 24 – and buoyed by Sunday’s excellent 1-0 win at Premier League outfit Fulham in the FA Cup have to fancy their chances at West Brom.

The broken Baggies are without a win in 2026, have got through two permanent managers and are back under caretaker James Morrison’s leadership with nothing more than a relegation fight to look forward to over the coming weeks.

They were improved in drawing 1-1 at a disappointing Sheffield United last time but Saints have won four in a row on the road and can keep that run going at a gloomy Hawthorns.

Bet Builder

PSG vs Chelsea

  • Draw or Chelsea Double Chance
  • Enzo Fernandez 1+ Shots on Target
  • Over 4.5 Chelsea Corners
  • Bet builder pays @ 6/1

Chelsea have won six of their last nine away matches in all competitions with their only two losses in that spell coming at Arsenal.

That has to give them a realistic chance of getting something from their Champions League trip to Paris Saint-Germain, the team they thumped 3-0 back in July’s World Club Cup Final.

Chelsea’s last away game in this competition yielded a 3-2 win at Napoli and PSG, beaten 3-1 at home by Monaco on Friday, are a long way off the standards they set last term.

Enzo Fernandez has scored eight goals in the Premier League and two in the Champions League this season and is averaging around two shots per game in both competitions.

The Argentine schemer may not get as many sighters of the PSG goal as he would other opponents, but he is well worth chancing to get at least one effort on target.

Finally, complete the bet builder with Chelsea winning over 4.5 corners. On their last two away games against top-flight opponents – at Arsenal and Villa – they piled up an aggregate 18 corners.

Acca: Birmingham City to beat QPR, Coventry to beat Preston, Bradford City to beat Port Vale

Acca pays @ 17/4

The wind has gone out of Birmingham’s sails with three straight losses derailing any hopes they might have had of getting to the Championship play-offs.

The 3-0 loss at Millwall and the 1-3 home defeat by Middlesbrough were just about acceptable against very good opponents.

The 1-0 loss at Charlton, however, was a shocker and expect a swift response at home to a QPR side also on a three-game losing streak in which they have shipped 11 goals and not scored a single one.

Make Birmingham the first leg of a Wednesday night acca followed by Championship leaders Coventry at home to Preston.

Coventry have won five, North End have lost seven of their last 11 and Frank Lampard’s men ought to make no mistakes.

Finally, Port Vale were the toast of the FA Cup romantics at the weekend by seeing off Sunderland in round five. Don’t expect Bradford City, however, to roll out the red carpet for them in a rearranged League One game the Bantams can win nicely.
