League Cup holders Newcastle face a stern examination when they welcome Manchester City to St James’ Park for the first leg of this semi-final clash.

Entertainment has not been in short supply for the Magpies, who have scored 13 goals and conceded seven across their last four matches.

Borussia Dortmund are unbeaten at home in the league, collecting 17 points from a possible 21, and they should have enough to overcome visiting Werder Bremen, who are without a win in their last six away outings.

Stuttgart head into Tuesday’s visit of Eintracht Frankfurt unbeaten in four and the hosts look capable of adding a crucial three points to their tally.

Frankfurt have drawn their last two matches and are without a win in their last three away contests, suffering a 6-0 loss at RB Leipzig during this barren run.

Roma host Torino in the Coppa Italia last-16 stage, five days before the two clash in Serie A, and the Giallorossi can gain a mental edge with victory in the cup.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have won their last two games to nil and have also won two of their last three at home with clean sheets.

This strong rearguard action can help them overcome Torino, who lost 2-0 at Atalanta on Saturday and are without a win in two matches
