Aakash Chopra didn't mince his words while criticising Fazalhaq Farooqi, calling out the Afghanistan pacer's lack of game awareness during the closing stages of the T20 World Cup clash against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, February 11.

In the last over, Afghanistan needed 13 runs to win with one wicket remaining. Kagiso Rabada bowled two no-balls and Noor Ahmad hit a splendid six to bring the equation in Afghanistan's favour. The Blue Tigers needed two runs off the last three balls and it seemed that they would snatch two important points from the fixture.

However, Noor drilled the fourth ball to the left of long-off and called for a couple of runs. Farooqi, who was giving him company, responded to the call but got run-out at the non-striker's end. Rabada had to collect the throw a little bit away from the stumps and then knock the bails off. Farooqi seemed to be a bit slow while coming back for the second run and even a dive at the end would have gotten him home. However, he decided against it and the game went into the Super Over.

The first Super Over ended in a tie as Farooqi conceded a six off the last ball while defending 18. The Proteas eventually won the match in the second Super Over to register back-to-back victories at the start of their campaign.

"There is only one way to get out on a no-ball, and that's run out. Fazalhaq Farooqi got run out. You needed two runs to win, and you should have dived after seeing that there was a run out chance, or at least drag the bat. Aap ne kuch bhi nahi kiya hai (You have done nothing at all)," Chopra said in a video posted on X.

You've not just lost this match, but said tata bye bye to the tournament: Chopra

Afghanistan suffered their second defeat in the tournament. They had started with a five-wicket loss to New Zealand last week. Chopra opined that the Rashid Khan-led side's campaign is all but over after the back-to-back losses.

"What have you done, Afghanistan! The match was in your hand, and you just had to close your fist. You've not just lost this match, but said tata bye bye to the tournament; you are not going to the next round," Chopra stated.
