Steve Yzerman getting crushed by Red Wings fans after Dylan Larkin trade request
The Detroit Red Wings were inside the playoff structure for the large majority of the 2025-26 season. However, when the season resumed following the Olympic break in February, the Red Wings went on a long losing skein and their playoff position disappeared. The disappointing finish meant that the Red Wings had had not appeared in the playoffs since the 2015-16 season.

While the team’s loyal fans were clearly disappointed, so were the team’s players. Dylan Larkin, perhaps the team’s best and most valuable player, has apparently had enough. He wants to be traded because he is tired of missing out on postseason.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that sources had told him that Larkin had requested a trade from the Red Wings. However, neither Larkin nor his agent Pat Brisson would comment on the report or confirm the desire for a trade. Executive vice president/general manager Steve Yzerman also took a silent approach regarding the trade request.
However, Red Wings fans were not silent on the subject. They took to social media to offer their frustration with their team missing out on the playoffs for the last 10 seasons. They did not hold back where either Yzerman or Larkin was concerned.
One tweet said that Larkin had completely “tarnished his resume” because the team has been absent from the playoffs for so long. Other fans complained about Larkin’s presence as the team’s captain, and they expressed that he did not have the kind of personality that other key players — including Patrick Kane — wanted to follow.
The Red Wings are likely to bring in a big haul for a player who has scored 31 goals or more in each of the last five seasons.
