Spurs news: Victor Wembanyama reveals ‘all that matters’ in NBA Finals Game 5

Ahead of a pivotal Game 5, Victor Wembanyama is locking in on the game ahead. In an interview with Chris Haynes on NBA TV, Wembanyama detailed his focus for Saturday night’s matchup.

Wembanyama says his message to his team is that all that matters is taking one game at a time.

“The first thing that should always be the case is believing. Belief. But also the fact that we need to take it one game at a time. And, uh, we need to win the next 48 minutes. That’s our job right now. That’s all that matters. After this whole season, a- all 82 games, all 20-plus games of playoffs, all that matters is the next 48 minutes. Not even thinking about the fact that we have to win three. We know we can do that. We have to win the next 48.”

Although the Knicks have a 3-1 lead, the Spurs have been competitive in each game of the series. In the first four games of the NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs have held a double-digit lead in each contest, but they’ve been unable to hold on. They have allowed the Knicks to come back from down 29 points in Game 4, which is the largest comeback in NBA Finals history.

The San Antonio Spurs now face the daunting challenge of winning three straight games to keep their championship hopes alive. A comeback from a 3-1 deficit would place them in rare company and mark the first successful NBA Finals rally of its kind since 2016. As Victor Wembanyama emphasized, however, the focus remains on taking the series one game at a time.
