Simon Jordan warns Oliver Glasner he risks losing out on future jobs after Crystal Palace outburst

Oliver Glasner’s scathing attack on the Crystal Palace board may come back to haunt him – he may have put off potential suitors.

That’s the view of ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, who cannot understand the 51-year-old’s outburst in the wake of the club’s 2-1 defeat to Sunderland.

Prior to Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at the Stadium of Light, Glasner announced he wouldn’t be renewing his contract in south London beyond this summer – a revelation that blindsided the board.

He then took aim at the Eagles hierarchy by insisting he feels ‘abandoned’ by senior figures at the club over their recent player sales – including Marc Guehi’s switch to Manchester City.

Glasner, who guided Palace to FA Cup and Community Shield glory in 2025, also suggested that a major reason why they are languishing in 13th spot is because of their lack of squad depth.

That is despite Palace forking out a club-record £35million to prise forward Brennan Johnson away from Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the month.

While Glasner didn’t hold back in his assessment of Palace, talkSPORT understands the club have decided not to sack him.

Crystal clear

For talkSPORT co-host Jordan, he is of the opinion that Glasner’s antics may not have gone down well with clubs potentially looking at hiring him.

He also insisted that club owners may now feel the Austrian could be difficult to work with.

Jordan said: “If I’m the owner of a football club and you’ve told me you’re leaving, and if I’m the owner that has got to sell a player because the player is out of contract and I’ve got to give him away for nothing in six months time, then I’m going to sell him.

“He’s not going to play on the weekend because most players don’t because they’re not going to want to risk the injury for the big pay rise they’re going to get.

“So really and truly, what are you doing? You’re frustrated about a game, so other people will look at that and go, ‘That’s a bit silly. How’s he going to manage when he gets into a big football club?

“‘Are we going to get a [Enzo] Maresca [situation at Chelsea] on our hands are we? We’re going to get a [Ruben] Amorim [situation at Manchester United] on our hands the moment he doesn’t like something.'”

Jordan added: “This outburst is just an emotional, temperamental outburst which is seeded in some justification, but probably doesn’t help him in the longer game.”

He then refuted the suggestion that Palace have abandoned Glasner in the transfer market, stating they are within their rights not to back him as he refused to sign a new deal.

The 58-year-old remarked: “Why have they abandoned him? They bought him a £35million striker [Johnson] about two weeks ago.

“Why would you, just out of curiosity, why would you be buying a lot of players for a manager that’s leaving? He told you in October he’s leaving.

“I told you at the beginning of the season he’d leave because ultimately he has created an outcome for himself that he’s been given a job to manage a club that he must have known the parameters of.

Glasner is the only Palace manager to have won the club major silverware

“Whether you like it or you don’t like it, he must have known the ramifications of managing Crystal Palace, that they weren’t a big spending football club, they spend what they get. What was he going to do?

“So just out of curiosity, and I’m not here to defend Steve Parish [Palace owner], and it’s loathe for me to have to do it, but what would you do with Eberechi Eze?

“What would you do? He would have walked out of that club to go to Arsenal. He wanted to go to Arsenal. Palace’s job was to get as much money as they possibly could.

“Guehi was kept in the summer, and what you’re going to do, you’re going to leave, because you’ve already made it clear, so Palace have got to keep him so that you can be happy for four months.”

Palace will be hoping for a return to winning ways when they host Chelsea on Sunday.

The Eagles are on the lookout for a first victory across all competitions since beating Irish side Shelbourne 3-0 on December 11 in the Conference League.
