Shohei Ohtani’s honest admission suggests he may be back offensively

While Shohei Ohtani has looked like a Cy Young Award candidate on the mound, his offensive production at the plate has been nothing to gloat about. However, the Los Angeles Dodgers star shared a statement on Monday that insinuates a bounce back as a hitter could be on the horizon.

When asked about his struggles in the batter’s box, the 31-year-old two-way phenom claimed that he’s starting to see the ball a bit better during his at-bat attempts, according to SportsNet L.A. Overall, Ohtani seemed confident his offensive production will eventually pick up.

“I actually felt pretty good the day before I pitched, hitting-wise,” said Ohtani in Japanese. “I think that helped more than off days… We played pretty much perfect games here in Anaheim, and it was both hitting and pitching side, did a great job… My strike zone awareness is a lot better. I feel like I’m seeing the ball better. The K-zone better.”

While the nine-year veteran owns a .258 batting average and .385 OBP so far this season, he’s been on fire in his past four games. During that four-game stretch, Ohtani has recorded eight hits, one home run, and eight RBIs through 17 at-bats, giving him a .471 batting average in those contests.

Shohei Ohtani will have another chance to continue his hot streak on Monday when the Dodgers take on the San Diego Padres in the first matchup of their three-game series. It is a pivotal series, as L.A. owns just a 0.5-game lead over San Diego in the NL West.
