San Francisco 49ers at Philadelphia Eagles betting tips and predictions for NFL playoff
The Wildcard Round of the playoffs gets underway on Saturday as the final 14 teams left standing try to reach Super Bowl LX in San Francisco.
Kyle Shanahan’s team are in action this week as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles and it promises to be a fascinating affair.
The 49ers finished with a 12-5 record, but the competitive nature of the NFC West saw them finish third. Philadelphia actually had a worse record at 11-5, but they did enough to top the standings in the NFC East.

49ers can dig in on the road
Ordinarily, a trip to Lincoln Financial Field would unsettle a team, but the 49ers should have no fears as they prepares to head East across the USA.
Shanahan’s team won seven of their nine games on the road and they will have still be full of confidence after winning six of their last seven matches.
Both teams have plenty of playoff experience and both have looked vulnerable at certain moments of the season. The Eagles have struggled on offence all year, ranking 24th in total yards per game.
San Francisco has had to deal with numerous injuries to key players, but they should have enough firepower on offence to get over the line. Their last three defeats came to teams competing in the playoffs – the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks – and they were only outclassed in one of those games.
The 49ers have scored 26 points or more in five of their last seven and the spread looks too big on this occasion, especially considering Philly’s struggles on offence.
Tight affair expected in Philadelphia
San Francisco have struggled defensively this season, conceding 21.8 points per game across the campaign. Since Week 15, they shipped 24 points to the hapless Tennessee Titans, 27 to the Indianapolis Colts and 38 to the Chicago Bears.
However, in their final regular-season game, they held the high-flying Seattle Seahawks to just 13 points. In both games against Seattle, the 49ers only conceded 13 and it shows what the defence is capable of.
They should have some joy against Philadelphia, with Nick Sirianni’s team only scoring 22.3 points per game on average this season. The only other team to qualify for the playoffs with a lower return is the Los Angeles Chargers, who scored 21.6 on average.
Philadelphia have been too inconsistent to trust across the season with the ball in hand and the unders looks the play here.
Purdy will need to come through adversity
49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has struggled with injuries this season, but in recent weeks, he has started to find his rhythm, throwing 11 touchdowns in four games. However, he has thrown an interception in three consecutive games.
The Eagles defence should be able to generate enough pressure and if they do, expect Purdy to make an errant throw.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has featured in four games this season without throwing a single touchdown, but he continues to be dangerous as a runner. Hurts may struggle to find open receivers at times, but he has already scored eight rushing touchdowns and should be able to add another to his tally.
49ers linebacker Fred Warner has been out since Week 6 with an ankle injury and his team have struggled against the run ever since. Saquon Barkley has rushed for 78 yards or more in three of his last four appearances, so he looks set for a big game against a weakened 49ers rush defence.
