Sam Darnold to be stripped of $249,000 despite financial reward of winning Super Bowl with Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks won its second Super Bowl in franchise history on Sunday.
It was a performance led by their impeccable defense, who sacked Drake Maye six-times on their way to a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots.

Seattle shut the Patriots out for three quarters, and there was a real chance that the Patriots could become the first team to be shutout in a Super Bowl.
But Maye, who endured a difficult night, found Mack Hollins for a 34-yard touchdown deep into the fourth quarter to avoid the chance of being blanked.
Sam Darnold fared better than his counterpart, throwing for 202 yards and one touchdown, earning the first ring of his career.
Darnold and his teammates will be celebrating the Super Bowl for the foreseeable future, but they have a hefty bill on the way – courtesy of the California government.
Darnold and Seahawks set for brutal tax cut on Super Bowl winnings
California has some of the highest income tax in the USA, and even visiting teams are not immune to it.
Fans are always interested in how much each player will receive for winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy, and according to Sportico, this figure is $178,000.
Each member of the 53-man roster will receive the same amount of money, thanks to the collective bargaining agreement that emphasizes treating players on each team the same.
The bonus is classed as ‘regular income’, meaning that federal tax will be paid on it.
It is projected that they will take home between $89,384 and $109,248, meaning each player is likely to lose $67,616 in tax – but Darnold is a different story.
The Super Bowl winning QB is a California resident, meaning he is set to pay a staggering $249,000 in income tax.

It is an astonishing $71,000 net loss for helping Seattle win their second Super Bowl in franchise history.
Darnold completes career revival in best way possible
Hailed as ‘the NFL’s most boring quarterback’, Darnold has endured a rollercoaster of a career that came full circle on Sunday night.
Selected third overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, the New York Jets gave up on Darnold after just three seasons. He then joined the Carolina Panthers, appearing in 18 games over two years.
Darnold then spent a year as Brock Purdy’s back-up in San Francisco, time in which he credited for his career turnaround.
After one year in the Bay, he found himself as the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, where he won 14 games throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns.
But that still wasn’t enough to convince the Vikings hierarchy that he should be their starting QB, choosing the inexperienced J.J. McCarthy instead.

Minnesota have just watched their former QB lead Seattle to its second Vince Lombardi in franchise history.
The talent has always been there, now Darnold has just proved it on the biggest stage in football.
