Rob Gronkowski lauds viral UK play-by-play announcer as Patriots legend touts former coach as the ‘best of all time’

Even in retirement, Rob Gronkowski remains one of the most charismatic figures in football.

While appearing on Radio Row ahead of Super Bowl LX, the four-time Super Bowl champion took a moment to praise British broadcaster and talkSPORT’s very own, Will Gavin, whose high-energy calls have recently gone viral across the pond.

Gavin, who was recently championed by Kay Adams for his “obsession” and “passion” for the game, received a glowing endorsement from the future Hall of Famer.

“You did great,” Gronkowski told Gavin.

“You were in London calling the game, and you can just tell how enthusiastic you are for the game of football and that you were the right fit to call the game out there in London. Thank you for doing a good job and bringing the juice to the table for the game.”

Gavin then shifted gears and asked Gronkowski if he ever envisioned himself following his longtime quarterback, Tom Brady, into the play-by-play booth.

Gronk, now an analyst for NFL on FOX, responded with his trademark humor, suggesting Brady might have had some help with his new career.

“Oh, man. I taught Tom Brady everything that he knows,” Gronkowski joked. “That’s why he’s in the booth, because he stole all my knowledge. I don’t have it anymore. He emptied my brain and took all my knowledge.”

Despite the “theft” of his football IQ, Gronk says he is perfectly content in his current role.

“I’m great where I’m at. I’m just an analyst for NFL Fox on Sundays, and I feel like that’s a great role for me. And that’s plenty of football for me in my life. I love talking football; I love playing the game more, though.”

The conversation then turned to Super Bowl XLIX, where a specific red-zone touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks remains one of the most memorable plays of Gronkowski’s career.

When Gavin asked if he knew the ball was coming the moment he saw linebacker K.J. Wright split out wide with him, Gronk didn’t hesitate.

“I knew straight away,” he said.

“Anytime you’re one-on-one with a linebacker, Tom Brady’s going to you. If it’s a running back on a linebacker, if it’s a tight end on a linebacker, it was already a known thing all year long that no matter what the route is, if it’s one-on-one, Tom’s coming to you.

“And I knew it, and that’s why I knew I had to get open.”

Of course you can’t talk to a former Patriots offensive player without bringing up offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, a coach who has truly seen it all with the franchise.

While much of the Patriots’ dynasty of the 2000s and 2010s is credited to the “Patriot Way” under Bill Belichick, Gronkowski knows that McDaniels was just as instrumental as anyone else.

“I’ve been saying all year, he’s probably the best offensive coordinator of all time, or at least top three,” Gronkowski said.

“I mean, this is what, his like 10th Super Bowl? It’s incredible how many rings he has… and how many championships he’s lost—that’s how many times he’s been there.”

Gronkowski concluded by highlighting what separates McDaniels from other coaches in the league.

“Josh McDaniels knows how to develop quarterbacks, he knows how to game plan, and he knows how to just come up with plays right on the spot, too. That’s what makes him so special.”

As the interview wrapped up, Gavin thanked the legendary tight end for his time, but the exchange served as a reminder of why Gronkowski remains a beloved figure in the sport.

There’s only one Gronk.
