Rio Ferdinand was hailed as a club legend on his return to the Manchester United training ground.

The former England international greeted several current Red Devils stars on a recent visit to Carrington.

Ferdinand’s tour of the complex saw him watch on during a session as Ruben Amorim’s side prepared for a match.

The 47-year-old was filming for his ‘Rio Meets’ YouTube series, with the behind-the-scenes footage shared to social media.

In the clip, Ferdinand can be seen bumping into Luke Shaw and Bryan Mbeumo in a corridor.

The trio embrace, with Shaw telling Ferdinand: “You’re a ledge, right,” before he and Mbeumo run off to avoid being late for a session.

Ferdinand responded by jokingly shouting: “Fines, fines,” to the United duo.

Several other Red Devils players took the opportunity to speak to the six-time Premier League winner during his visit.

As Ferdinand watched the players be put through their paces in an indoor hall, he briefly spoke to midfielder Casemiro.

Their exchange saw the retired defender compliment the Brazilian’s improved English skills.

Casemiro is into his fourth season at Old Trafford since joining the club from Real Madrid in 2022.

The 33-year-old’s contract is due to expire in the summer, although United have the option to extend his deal by a further year.

Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount, Tom Heaton and Senne Lammens also shook hands with Ferdinand as he watched on from the side of the room.

Fellow defender Leny Yoro was even serenaded by him, with Ferdinand singing his chant as the pair embraced.

The video ended with a short interaction with Amorim at the training ground.

Ferdinand’s visit came as he filmed an interview with captain Bruno Fernandes for his YouTube channel.

His ‘Rio Meets’ series has also featured the likes of Sadio Mane, Dimitar Berbatov and Steven Gerrard in recent episodes.

As well as his title wins, Ferdinand made 455 appearances for United during 12 years at the club between 2002 and 2014.

He scored eight goals from centre-back in those matches as well as lifting both the Champions League and Club World Cup.

Meanwhile, United are currently preparing to host Wolves on Tuesday night.

The clash follows their Boxing Day victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

United now find themselves sixth in the Premier League, although they are only behind Chelsea on goal difference.

The Red Devils also sit just three points adrift of the top four after 18 league matches this season.
