‘Restart this club’ – Championship star blasts fan comment after fifth defeat in eight games

Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu clashed with a fan on social media following the Foxes’ latest defeat.

The Championship side were beaten at home by Sheffield United on Saturday.

It is their fifth loss in eight league matches, which has seen Leicester pick up just seven points since October 21.

The run of form has left manager Marti Cifuentes at risk of losing his job, talkSPORT understands.

Their defeat to the Blades came after the home side had fallen two goals behind inside the opening four minutes.

The visitors added a third before half-time, although the Foxes would score twice in the second half.

However, Cifuentes’ side were unable to find an equaliser at the King Power Stadium.

What did Fatawu say?

Following the match, Fatawu took to Instagram to thank the supporters in a post shared on Sunday.

In the caption, he wrote: “This is the time to stick together as a team and learn from our mistakes and come back stronger on Saturday.

“Thanks to the Foxes, the second half support was amazing.”

The 21-year-old was quickly caught in a back-and-forth with a fan in the comments section, though.

It came after the supporter commented: “The season’s gone, get rid of the dead swamp and restart this club.”

Fatawu hit back, replying: “If you think this season is done then we don’t need you to support this club because we are not done yet just watch and see.”

Meanwhile, the fan added: “If you do get promoted then I personally will give you an apology.

“You don’t have to reply to this but from what we fans see and hear, there are players out there that don’t care and want to move on, you’re definitely not included in this.

“Also you couldn’t be more wrong, I can still support the club but be realistic. Unlikely we will be promoted but hopefully you can prove us wrong.”

Leicester currently sit 16th in the Championship following their defeat on Saturday.

However, they remain just five points adrift of the play-off places after their relegation last term.

Fatawu is into his third season with the club having initially joined on loan from Sporting Lisbon in 2023.

His deal was then made permanent at the end of the campaign, with Leicester winning promotion to the Premier League as champion.

The Ghana international, whose current contract expires in 2029, has scored ten goals and added 20 assists in 74 appearances for Leicester.

Those include three goals and five assists in 18 league matches so far this term.

Fatawu will have the chance to extend his tally next weekend, when the Foxes visit Derby County on Saturday lunchtime.
