Red Sox’s Garrett Crochet makes feelings clear on CEO’s trade deadline comments
Boston Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy recently made an appearance on WEEI and hinted that the team may end up selling ahead of the MLB trade deadline. It is worth noting that a number of Red Sox players have been mentioned as potential trade candidates. It seems as if Aroldis Chapman may end up getting moved, while Jarren Duran is also a trade candidate. On Friday, Red Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet was asked about Kennedy’s comments, via Gabrielle Starr.
“I don’t think that we needed that wake-up call,” Crochet said. “I think everyone knows the kind of the kind of ball that needs to be played, not only at the big-league level but here in Boston especially. We went out this offseason and acquired some talent that the team viewed as game-changers, the clubhouse viewed as game-changers, and ultimately we just haven’t played well as a group.
“There have been moments here and there, and not all the losses are ugly, but they’re still losses, which sucks.”
Crochet does not believe the Red Sox needed “that wake-up call.” The team understands that they need to play better baseball. At the moment, Boston is in last place in the American League East standings with a 27-39 record.
Could the Red Sox still turn their season around? Yes, but they need to figure things out as soon as possible. The trade deadline is still around a month and a half away, so the Red Sox could get back on track. If they are unable to begin winning on a consistent basis, however, then selling before the trade deadline could make sense.
