Ranger Suarez gives optimistic Red Sox update after being pulled from Astros game

The Boston Red Sox continue to hold down last place in the American League East, after dropping two out of three games to the Houston Astros and suffering yet another series defeat. Pitcher Ranger Suarez started the Sunday game for Boston and he blanked the Astros for four innings before he came out of the game with hamstring tightness. The Red Sox are hoping that the injury is not a serious one and he will be able to remain in the pitching rotation or come back very quickly.

Suarez has been the team’s most effective pitcher this season. He had been dominating against the Blue Jays in his previous start, allowing just 1 hit in 8.0 inning while striking out 10 batters. He hoped to duplicate that effort against the Astros and while he was effective, he gave up 3 hits and 1 base on balls while striking out 3 batters.

Suarez said that he has had similar injuries in the past when he was with the Philadelphia Phillies. He does not believe that the injury is serious and that he should be able to make his next start.

The Red Sox dropped a 3-1 decision to the Astros in 10 innings Sunday. After taking a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Jarren Duran, the Red Sox were unable to push across another run despite numerous opportunities.

The Astros scored a pair of runs in the top of the 10th inning when Cam Smith doubled off the Green Monster in left field with the bases loaded. The Red Sox loaded the bases in the bottom of the 10th inning with one out, but Ceddanne Rafaela grounded into a double play to end the game.
