Rams star reaches out to Aaron Donald as NFL legend fuels comeback rumors amid Myles Garrett trade

The Los Angeles Rams couldn’t, could they?

The Rams stunned the NFL on Monday when they pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns to acquire two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

To seal the deal, though, they had to part ways with a monstrous haul that included two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse, as well as a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.

The Rams have long sought-after a defender that could mitigate the loss of Aaron Donald, following his abrupt retirement after the 2023 season at the age of 32.

Garrett, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year winner, and the league’s all-time single season sack record holder, certainly lives up to that bill.

But, what if Donald decided to come out of retirement?

It’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility either, with the three-time DPOY having stayed in shape – perhaps even bettered his physical conditioning – since calling time on his playing career.

Back when the rumors were rife about Micah Parsons wanting out of the Dallas Cowboys, Donald even joked he would come out of retirement if the star pass rusher was traded to the Rams.

Of course, Parsons wound up in Wisconsin as a member of the Green Bay Packers, but who’s to say that with Garrett now on the team that Donald does a u-turn and opts to play for the Rams once again for last one run at a Super Bowl ring.

With Super Bowl LXI set to be played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California next season, and with reigning league MVP Matthew Stafford in the twilight years of his career, the stars couldn’t have aligned more perfectly for a potential comeback.

Furthermore, the Rams have gone big in the off-season on bolstering their defense, also trading for former Kansas City Chiefs star cornerback Trent McDuffie, and signing his teammate Jaylen Watson to a three-year, $51 million deal in free agency.

In fact, Watson has already made a move to try and persuade Donald to come out of retirement.

“@AaronDonald97 hit me big bro🎢,” he wrote on X on Monday.

Teasing a comeback?

Donald is still only 35-years-old, and could still be an impact player for a Rams team that is clearly going all-in to win a championship or bust.

While he may not be the dominant force that he was for a decade in the NFL, should he make the decision to return and team up with Garrett, the Rams defense would be threatening to any opposition in the league.

Further fuel has even been added to the fire by Chris Brockman of The Rich Eisen Show, who speculated that Donald could be hinting at a possible return after a video of a workout he posted to social media on Thursday.

“It’s worth pointing out that in his latest IG workout post 4 days ago, Aaron Donald in his caption has “#ready” and the song is “ain’t done” by Bixst. this can’t be a coincidence, right? #NFL #RamsHouse,” the eagle-eyed Brockman noted.

Perhaps Brockman is just reading too deep into the lines that may not exist, but nonetheless, it has given hope that we could one day see Donald back donning his iconic No. 99 jersey on the field in the City of Angels.
