Rachel Nichols sends sobering Victor Wembanyama reminder before Game 5

The San Antonio Spurs are in a must-win situation for Game 5, as a loss ends the NBA Finals and gives the New York Knicks the title. With literally everything on the line for Saturday’s matchup in San Antonio, analyst Rachel Nichols reminds everyone of the one thing Victor Wembamyama can’t do in the game.

During a segment on “First Things First,” on Fox Sports, Nichols stated that the 22-year-old center is one technical foul away from being suspended. He is actually one flagrant foul away from a suspension. Nichols simply got the two mixed up. But either way, Wembanyama has to be careful in Game 5 to avoid suspension for Game 6 if the Spurs get the win.

“Victor Wembanyama is 1 [flagrant foul] away from a suspension,” said Nichols… “I think the Spurs absolutely can win this next basketball game. But I think they have to work on some very key things, and Victor Wembanyama is gonna have to figure out how to play on that line, where he can be physical and play his game, but not get a [flagrant].”

The third-year pro has been excellent throughout the postseason. However, the Finals have given him a challenge due to the Knicks’ matching up against him rather well. His play is key to the Spurs’ success, and if he gets a flagrant foul in Game 5 with San Antonio winning, the club would be in big trouble come Game 6.

In the first four games of this series, the 2025-26 Defensive Player of the Year is averaging 27.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 3.3 blocks per contest. He’s also shooting 43.5% from the field and hitting 29.6% of his three-point attempts.
