Premier League Darts – Week 13 prediction

Only four weeks remain of the league stage of this year’s Premier League, leaving each and every player with so much to play for as the all-important play offs loom closer.

Last week saw reigning world champion Luke Littler pick up his fourth final victory of the campaign, defeating table topping Jonny Clayton in the final on a night which saw both players guarantee their place in the play-offs in London.

The world number one, who still sits second in the table despite last week’s win, three points behind his opponent in the final, is up first on the oche this week as he takes on Premier League rookie Josh Rock in the opening quarter final.

The Northern Irishman still sits Rock bottom of the table, after losing his opening seven matches, but has won four of his last five quarter final clashes to show glimpses of his potential, and despite having never won a semi final is still in with an outside chance of reaching the play offs on 28th May.

The winner of that opening quarter final of the night will take on the winner of Stephen Bunting’s clash with Gerwyn Price.

Price will be happy with his current position of third place in the Premier League table, with a five point cushion over fifth placed Gian van Veen, but doesn’t make the trip to Scotland in the strongest of form having lost his last three quarter final clashes.

Bunting, currently dwelling down in seventh in the table, still has some work to do to make up the seven point gap between himself and the top four, but like his opponent, could do with an upturn in form after defeats his last two opening match defeats.

The other side of the draw pits league leader Jonny Clayton up against the other rookie van Veen to start off with.

Clayton will be delighted to have guaranteed his place in the semi finals in London in his first year back in the Premier League after being overlooked for the past two campaigns, but will remain eager to keep his place at the top of the table to ensure top seed for the play-offs.

Last week saw van Veen’s streak of either finishing runners up or losing in the quarter final come to an end following his semi final defeat to Clayton, which took him up to fifth in the standings and now just four points behind Michael van Gerwen in the all-important top four finish.

The final quarter final of the night, but arguably the standout one on paper, sees reigning champion Luke Humphries take on seven-time champion van Gerwen in a huge battle for the top four.

Humphries has had a desperately disappointing campaign by his lofty standards in the defence of his first Premier League title last year, yet to have a nightly win and having only reached one final so far.

The world number two has won only one of his last five quarter final ties, and comes up against the player he’s trying to hunt down in the table, making Thursday’s final quarter final something of a six (or four) pointer.

Van Gerwen leads Humphries by five points ahead of their match in Scotland, but will also be desperate to extend his four point lead he has over fellow countryman van Veen just one place below him.

Clayton and Littler have won the last three nights of Premier League action between them, and with them on opposite sides of the draw for Thursday it’s difficult to see any other duo meeting in the final this week. The Welshman’s 7/1 price to win looks very generous.

Premier League Darts – Week 13 betting tips

Clayton closing in on top seed

After a brief wobble that saw three consecutive quarter final defeats a handful of weeks ago, Clayton has since fired back with eight wins in his last nine Premier League matches, winning two nights and reaching the final of his most recent.

The Welshman won’t have an easy route to Thursday’s final but despite them being big names, the likes of van Gerwen, van Veen and Humphries haven’t necessarily shown their best form in the Premier League with only one nightly win between them, currently sit fourth, fifth and sixth in the standings respectively.

Littler to spark fireworks

World number one Littler has thrown at least 12 more 180s than any other player in the Premier League this season, whilst also boasting the best average in the competition.
