Premier League Darts – Week 12 prediction

Last week saw Jonny Clayton claim his second consecutive nightly win, with the Welshman also becoming the first to win four nights across the tournament, extended his lead at the top of the table of world champion and world number one Luke Littler in the process.

The 51-year-old returns to action in Liverpool on Thursday night, featuring in the second match of the night, this time up against Stephen Bunting, whose quarter final defeat to last place Josh Rock last week saw him drop down to seventh in the standings.

‘The Bullet’ will be particularly eager to impress on Thursday night with the event taking place in his home city of Liverpool.

The winner of that clash will take on the winner of the opening match of the night, which sees Gian van Veen come up against Gerwyn Price.

The rookie Dutchman last week continued his streak of only having lost in either the quarter final or the final of every week of his first year of Premier League Darts, following his 6-2 defeat to Luke Humphries in his first outing in his home event in Rotterdam seven days ago.

The sixth placed man takes on Price this evening who has enjoyed a strong Premier League so far, currently occupying third place despite having lost his last two quarter final clashes, but still with a six point cushion over the chasing play-off pack with just five weeks of the regular season remaining.

The other half of the draw opens with seven-time Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen up against Josh Rock, the latter currently rooted to the bottom of the table.

The Dutchman currently occupies the fourth and final play off spot after reaching two of the last four finals, and will see Thursday’s quarter final against the last placed Rock as a good opportunity to extend the three points gap of the chasing pack.

After a very slow start to his first Premier League campaign, which saw Rock lose his first seven matches of the tournament, the Northern Irishman has since managed to find some wins in recent weeks, winning all of his last four quarter final clashes but is still yet to make the jump into a final.

The winner of that clash will take on the winner of the blockbuster final quarter final between the top two ranked players in the world, world champion Littler versus defending Premier League champion Humphries.

Littler currently sits second in the Premier League table after three nightly victories and a run to last week’s final, while Humphries has disappointed in his defence of his first Premier League title last year.

The former world champion sits fifth in the table with only one appearance in a final all season, which he lost, and hold the most semi final defeats of anyone in the competition.

Clayton is very much the man in form having won six Premier League matches on the spin to open up his five point lead at the top of the table, and with two of the other three players on his side of Thursday’s draw currently in the bottom half, it’s not difficult to foresee ‘the Ferret’ reaching yet another final.

Clayton closing in on hat trick of wins

Clayton has been the standout player of the entire competition so far, clearly with a point to prove after being overlooked in the previous two years of the Premier League.

The Welshman has more night wins and more final appearances than any other player so far, and with six wins on the spin he is clearly the man to beat at the moment.

Lukes to spark fireworks

Lukes Littler and Humphries meet in the final quarter final clash of the night in a match which so often brings out the best of each other.

The two met in the 2024 World Championship final as well as last year’s Premier League final and remain the two highest ranked players in the world.

The duo, who even paired up for England’s World Cup of Darts tournament last year, are the only two in this year’s Premier League currently with a tournament average over 100.
