Penguins star Sidney Crosby’s jock goes viral during Ben Kindel interview

The Pittsburgh Penguins made an improbable run to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, drawing the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round. The Penguins fell to the Flyers in Game 1, losing 3-2.

Penguins rookie forward Ben Kindel was asked about the mindset of himself and the team by the media, sitting in the locker room. While the answer was great, the focus is not on his answer, but on a piece of Sidney Crosby’s equipment hanging behind him, per a video posted by Spittin’ Chiclets on X, formerly Twitter.

“I don’t think anybody’s panicked in here. Just came to the rink. It was a regular day today. Looking to get the job done tomorrow, execute tomorrow,” Kindel said. “Tomorrow’s a new day, a new game. It’s a long series.”

While the 19-year-old celebrated his birthday with practice, getting ready for Game 2, hanging behind him in the video was Crosby’s jock strap.

The clearly old and worn piece of equipment stole the show during the interview. This is not the first time that Crosby’s protective equipment has been part of the news cycle. In 2019, Jack Johnson was with the Penguins and spoke to the media about Crosby’s rituals, one of which involved a jock strap, according to Rob Rossi of The Athletic.

“Crosby has worn the same black Reebok jock strap dating back to when he played for Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior League,” Rossi wrote back in 2019. “Crosby likes the way the jock strap feels, so he’s kept it around and had it cared for professionally.”

As the Penguins look to rebound from their loss in Game 1, Crosby will put on the same jock he has worn for decades, and hopefully get a win in Game 2. Game 2 between the Penguins and Flyers is set for Monday night with puck drop at 7 pm ET.
