Patriots TE Hunter Henry ‘looking in mirror’ after Super Bowl loss to Seahawks
The New England Patriots will enter the 2026 NFL season as reigning AFC Champions. But they ultimately fell short of their goal last season, losing Super Bowl 60 to the Seattle Seahawks, 29-13.
On Tuesday, Patriots’ captains Hunter Henry and Robert Spillane met with the media for the first time this offseason. Both players lamented how the season culminated, but are turning a page.
“It still stings, to be honest with you,” Henry said, per MassLive.com. “Obviously, we didn’t play to the capability that we wanted to play at all on the biggest stage, and that was very disappointing and hard to process for a while. [It] definitely has taken a while. It still stings.
“But I think that is good. That’s good that it stinks. It’s good. It makes you want to work a little harder to get all the way to the end. To then not achieve it was hard.”
New England’s defense kept them in the game into the second half, but Drake Maye and the offense could never get going. With the offense’s inability to stay on the field, the defense’s stumble proved inevitable.
“It’s disappointing. It stings, it hurts,” Spillane said. “It feels like that wasn’t supposed to be a part of our journey, but obviously it is. All you can do from that is learn from it, grow as a person as a player, and that’s our focus.”
The Patriots are turning the page and looking ahead to 2026. They bolstered the offensive line, selecting Caleb Lomu in the first round of the NFL Draft. After adding an edge rusher in the second round, the Patriots selected Henry’s eventual replacement, Notre Dame TE Eli Raridon.
But Henry, 31, still has juice left in the tank and is taking an introspective approach.
“Obviously, getting there was big, but we didn’t make it all the way,” said Henry. “So, you’ve got to look at yourself in the mirror. What can you do more? How can you be better? How can I be a better teammate? How can I be a better player so that at the end we can hoist that trophy and not be the one to walk off the field?”
Only time will tell if the dreaded Super Bowl hangover will afflict the 2026 Patriots.
