Panthers QB Bryce Young’s crucial OT gets real on retirement notion

The Carolina Panthers are not facing an imminent retirement decision from veteran offensive tackle Taylor Moton, as the longtime protector of quarterback Bryce Young made clear he still sees himself firmly in his prime.

Speaking to Anthony Rizzuti of Panthers Wire, Moton addressed speculation about his long-term future and dismissed the idea that retirement is approaching.

“Retirement’s not on my mind right now,” Moton replied with a smile. “Ultimately, I feel great running around with all the ‘young’ guys. I feel like I’m young, I feel like I’m moving well, and I’m feeling like I’m still in my prime. I don’t feel like I’m slowing down.

“Every year I come in, I work to have my best season yet—and that’s not changing going into Year 10.”

Moton’s performance in 2025 supported that stance. The veteran right tackle earned an 80.9 overall offensive grade from Pro Football Focus, marking the second-highest grade of his NFL career. His consistency along the offensive line has remained a key factor in Carolina’s efforts to stabilize its offense and support Young’s development.

The Panthers finished the 2025 season with an 8-9 record, earning a playoff berth before falling 34-31 to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Wild Card round. The late-season push underscored the team’s progress, with protection up front playing a critical role in the offense’s improvement.

Taylor Moton not eyeing retirement as Panthers lean on veteran leadership

Now entering his 10th NFL season, Moton continues to embrace a leadership role within the locker room, particularly as the roster skews younger around him.

“I feel like you grow, in different aspects,” Moton stated. “Especially being a leader—what works, what reciprocates, what doesn’t, things like that. I might not go into quite the details and all the stories I have.

“But ultimately, that’s part of the growth—being a better leader, finding ways to get guys where they wanna go and get the best of them, and where I fall into that role, the best way I can help.”

Moton is under contract through the 2027 season, with two years remaining on his current deal entering 2026. As the Panthers continue building around Young, his presence on the offensive line provides continuity and experience at a critical position.
