Original plan for Edge’s ‘awesome’ last WWE match was a fitting Judgment Day send-off
Almost three years after Edge/Adam Copeland’s last WWE match against Sheamus, the original plan for his last bout has been revealed by the “Celtic Warrior,” and it would’ve provided a major boost to then-Judgment Day member, Damian Priest.
Speaking to QTB Football (via Fightful), Sheamus revealed that he and Edge pitched a match against each other to the powers that be. Even he conceded that “it didn’t look like it was going to come to fruition because there were a couple of other things going on.”
Originally, Edge was supposed to face Priest in his last match. While Sheamus wasn’t 100% sure that was really the plan, it ultimately “changed” and they got to face, which he called “awesome” in hindsight.
They had pitched a match against each other because they hadn’t ever had a singles match against each other. When they pitched it, they didn’t know it’d be Edge’s last match before he left the company to later join AEW.
“He was trying to figure out what he wanted to do,” Sheamus recalled. “It was a match we never had. It was great, so easy, and so much fun. It was in Toronto, the crowd was insane. Beth Phoenix and his daughters were there. It was awesome.”
Luckily for Priest, he got to face Edge once in a singles match. It happened nearly a year earlier during the Aug. 22, 2022, edition of Monday Night RAW.
Edge’s last WWE match against Sheamus

Edge’s last WWE match took place during the Aug. 18, 2023, edition of Friday Night SmackDown. As the “Celtic Warrior” said, the “Rated-R Superstar” didn’t know it’d be his last match in the promotion at the time.
The Aug. 18, 2023, edition of SmackDown celebrated his 25th anniversary with WWE. His match that night lasted almost 20 minutes, and it ended with him hitting a spear on Sheamus.
Since then, he has joined AEW. Now, he goes by his real name, Adam Copeland, and he has won the TNT Championship twice. He recently reunited with his tag team partner, Christian Cage.
