Newcastle United vs Manchester United – Live coverage and how to follow Premier League clash

Newcastle United and Manchester United will meet at St. James’ Park with very different objectives for the rest of the season.

Despite reaching the Champions League last 16, where they will meet Barcelona, it’s been a difficult domestic campaign for the Magpies.

They sit 13th in the Premier League on 36 points after their 3-2 home loss to Everton on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle have one win from their last seven matches, five of which have ended in defeat.

United on the other hand have continued their excellent form under interim boss Michael Carrick.

Their unbeaten run in the league extended to 11 on Sunday with a 2-1 comeback victory against ten-man Crystal Palace.

After a lacklustre start to the season, United are now third and in the race for Champions League qualification.

They were 1-0 winners at home to Newcastle in the reverse fixture on Boxing Day, with Patrick Dorgu netting the only goal.

Newcastle vs Man United: What has been said?

United went 1-0 down inside when Maxence Lacroix headed in from a Brennan Johnson corner.

But after Lacroix was controversially shown red for fouling Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes levelled it with his 57th minute penalty.

Benjamin Sesko then scored his fourth goal in five games to win it for United, whose boss Carrick delighted in the players’ attitude.

“We spoke to them at half-time about being in that position, how we react, and showing that personality and the belief,” he said.

“Football is tough at times and this league is tough so you’re not always going to have it your own way.

“But to come back like we did and turn the game in our favour is the biggest thing for me to take from it for sure.”

On in-form striker Sesko, he added: “We’ve been working closely with him and connecting with him, building that relationship and trust.

“A lot is on Ben. He has put the work in. He’s stayed positive, he knows how he wants to improve and he’s got some great strengths.

“He is such a real threat. I am really excited where he can get to.”
