Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace predictions and betting tips – Magpies seek back-to-back wins

Newcastle United came on strong in the second half of last season, and they are aiming to do the same this time around. Eddie Howe’s side beat Burnley last time out, and they will be targeting another victory this weekend.

Crystal Palace will have something to say about that, but can Oliver Glasner’s men get something at St James’ Park?

Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace predictions

For all their frustrations in the first half of the season, you can make a case that the glass is half full for Newcastle United at the start of 2026.

Having ended their long trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup last season, the Magpies are through to the final four of this year’s edition.

Newcastle are on course to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League, too. They might even secure a top-eight finish in the league phase to proceed directly to the round of 16.

The Premier League season has not exactly gone to plan so far, but the Magpies remain in the mix for a top-four finish. Despite being all the way down in 13th at present, they are only four points adrift of fifth, which is likely to be a Champions League spot again this term.

Newcastle were also off the pace for much of the first half of 2024/25, but they came on strong from December onwards and duly surged up the standings. Eddie Howe will hope for a repeat this time around.

If Newcastle are to start knocking on the door of the top four or five, they could do with some positive results in the weeks ahead.

Crystal Palace (home), Leeds United (home) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (away) are their next three opponents. Newcastle must be looking at nine points from those matches, not least because trickier contests against Aston Villa, Liverpool and Manchester City are on the horizon thereafter.

Palace are one of the teams above Newcastle at the moment, albeit only by a point. Oliver Glasner’s side have run out of steam of late, with Palace’s thin squad struggling to cope with the demands of the club’s first European campaign.

Daichi Kamada, Ismaila Sarr and Daniel Munoz have all been sorely missed in recent weeks, although the imminent arrival of Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur gives Palace another option in attack.

“I have huge appreciation from the players, I can see their effort,” Glasner said after the 1-1 draw with Fulham on New Year’s Day.

“We have so many games and the squad is quite short of numbers, but they give everything they have. I know these players will give their best in every single game.”

The Palace boss will hope Johnson is not the only new arrival in the winter window. Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace betting tips

Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace betting tips

Newcastle United begin 2026 with a home game against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Home advantage decisive

Newcastle United have been heavily reliant on their home form so far this season.

Howe’s men have only won two of 10 matches on their travels, compared to five in nine at St James’ Park.

Newcastle play with more energy and intensity in front of their own supporters, and that often gets them over the line.

It will be a huge advantage against a Crystal Palace team that has looked physically and mentally fatigued in recent weeks.

Palace are going through a tricky spel,l and Newcastle should have too much for them on Sunday.

Goals await in northeast

Crystal Palace will at least draw some confidence from their away record.

Only Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have collected more points per game at rival grounds in 2025/26, while no one has won more matches on the road.

Palace have scored in all but one of their away matches since the opening weekend. If they find the net here, Newcastle would need to score twice to win.

Bear in mind, too, that there have been over 2.5 goals in 10 of Newcastle’s last 12 encounters in all competitions.

Improving Gordon to fire

Anthony Gordon had a disappointing start to the season, but there have been signs of late that he is getting back to his best.

That is good news for Newcastle, who will need Gordon to be fit and firing if they are to achieve their objectives over the next few months.

The former Everton forward has looked sharper in recent appearances, but Howe still needs more from him in terms of output.

Despite shining in the Champions League, Gordon has only scored twice in the Premier League so far. He will be desperate to make it three for 2025/26 on Sunday.
