New footage shows bitter Gabriel snub handshake from Manchester United star moments after full-time

The frustration of defeat enveloped Gabriel as he refused to shake Harry Maguire’s hand after Arsenal’s 3-2 loss to Manchester United.

As the full-time whistle sounded at the Emirates Stadium, the Brazilian briefly pulled his shirt over his face in anger.

Maguire then went over to shake Gabriel’s hand, but the Arsenal ace didn’t want any part of it.

Instead of clasping Maguire’s outstretched palm, Gabriel retracted his hand and immediately issued some choice words towards the England international.

Evidently annoyed at Gabriel’s disrespectful act, Maguire gave his opposite number a shove.

Gabriel then had to be blocked from taking any further action by United goalkeeper Senne Lammens as tensions threatened to boil over.

It was a night to forget for Gabriel as he was part of an Arsenal backline that shipped three goals in a match for the first time in 121 games.

A costly error from Martin Zubimendi allowed Bryan Mbeumo to equalise after Lisandro Martinez’s own goal put the Gunners in front.

Patrick Dorgu’s stunning strike gave United the lead in the 50th minute, only for Mikel Merino to level the score once more six minutes from full-time.

However, Matheus Cunha’s long-range effort proved to be the difference to secure a major three points for United.

As for Maguire, he delivered a colossal defensive display for the Red Devils and was named man of the match.

He even manhandled Gabriel in the dying stages of the contest after winning a defensive header.

United’s win over Arsenal made it two in a row under caretaker boss Michael Carrick.

Speaking to Sky Sports following the win, Maguire hailed Carrick’s instant impact on and off the pitch.

“Michael’s come in, he’s been brilliant with us, he’s brought a fresh energy in, the group’s really galvanised,” Maguire said.

“Two tough games, everybody probably thinks we come away from them with not many points but to win both is magnificent.”

While Carrick has brought United together amid the fractured atmosphere under predecessor Ruben Amorim, cracks may be starting to appear at Arsenal.

The defeat to United marked the third league match without a win for the Gunners as their lead at the top of the table was cut to four points.

Some sections of the Arsenal fanbase expressed their frustration via audible groans during the United match, a move criticised by former Aston Villa striker and talkSPORT host Gabby Agbonlahor.

However, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta did not believe the fans’ nervousness infiltrated the players against United.

“I don’t know, but we have to understand that we all want to win, and the crowd is trying to be behind the team to make the best decisions and to win the game, and we need to go through that.

“We know what the players need, and we’re going to be playing much better in the next game, like we did two and a half days ago, one of the best and toughest places in Europe to go, like against Inter Milan, so we know that we’re below par, especially in certain individual standards, and when that happens, the margin becomes very, very close, and today they made those margins bigger because the individual quality that they have made a difference in the game.”
