Mystics’ Sonia Citron makes unreal buzzer beater to take down Brittney Sykes’ Tempo

Sonia Citron pulled off some incredible heroics as she made a game-winning shot in the final seconds of the Washington Mystics’ clash with Brittney Sykes and the Toronto Tempo on Friday night.

Citron is going through the second season of her WNBA career with the Mystics. She impressed as a rookie, landing on the league’s All-Rookie team as she seeks to make jumps in her game while helping Washington win more frequently.

Even though Washington has been shaky to start the 2026 season, that hasn’t stopped Citron from showing growth in her playstyle. She’s become more active in the offense, increasing her scoring involvement while creating shots for her teammates.

In 34 minutes of action, Citron filled up the stat sheet against Toronto. She finished with a display of 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. She shot 6-of-16 from the field, including 1-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

This also includes a huge clutch shot from her. As Washington trailed 85-84 in the last two seconds, the team won a jump ball as Citron gained possession. After that, she fired the shot as it went down, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

How Sonia Citron, Mystics played against Tempo

It’s an incredible highlight for Sonia Citron to pull off, stunning the Tempo with her game-winner.

Five players scored in double-digits for Washington in the win, including Citron. Lauren Betts led the team with 18 points, four rebounds and two steals. Michaela Onyenwere came next with 17 points and eight rebounds, Shakira Austin had 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Angela Dugalic provided 10 points and six rebounds.

Washington improved to a 5-6 record on the season, holding the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference standings. They are above the Chicago Sky and the Connecticut Sun while trailing the Toronto Tempo and the Indiana Fever.

The Mystics will look forward to their next matchup, being on the road. They take on the New York Liberty as the game commences on June 14 at 3 p.m. ET.
