MLB rumors: is Jon Morosi trying to hint at Tigers trading Tarik Skubal to Braves?

With Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal back with the team, trade rumors about him continue to swirl. MLB.com reporter Jon Morosi is adding some more fuel to the trade speculation. He posted a cryptic message to X, formerly Twitter, about Skubal.

In an indirect way, Morosi is making a claim that the Atlanta Braves will be looking to add Skubal.

“The Tigers’ postseason chances have dropped to 2.4%, per (Baseball Reference.) Scott Harris has made “sell” trades with the following clubs since arriving to Detroit:LAD, ATL, PHI, SFG, TEX. Of note: The Braves have multiple starters on the IL,” Morosi posted.

This post seems to infer that the Braves have good reason to make an offer for Skubal. Detroit is reportedly waiting to see how the team does in the weeks ahead, before entertaining offers.

“The Tigers plan to wait until around the All-Star break to see if they can get back in the race before pulling the plug on their season and trading Skubal,” USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale wrote on Sunday in his weekly column.

The Tigers are having a rough season. Detroit is fourth in the American League Central heading into Sunday. The club is just 29-42 on the year.

Skubal has been linked with several teams already this season. The Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays are just a few teams that are reportedly interested.

The Tigers pitcher has been out a good amount of the season with an elbow injury. He returned to the mound on Saturday, to start against the Cleveland Guardians. Skubal worked four-plus innings in a Tigers loss.

Detroit plays the Guardians again on Sunday.
