Mets superstar Juan Soto shares important update on forearm injury
The New York Mets are closely monitoring Juan Soto as attention continues to build around his forearm injury during the 2026 season.
Soto addressed reporters Wednesday, providing a detailed update on his condition and recovery process. He explained that the discomfort feels similar to what he experienced in 2024, when he missed only three games before returning to action. That comparison offers a level of optimism as the Mets continue to evaluate his status moving forward.
The star slugger said his arm is improving steadily as he progresses through treatment. He plans to increase his throwing distance gradually while ramping up overall baseball activity in the coming days. Still, Soto acknowledged he does not yet have a firm timeline for returning to outfield duties with the team.
ESPN’s Jorge Castillo shared Soto’s comments on X, formerly Twitter, after speaking with him directly about the injury, his recovery, and how he is responding physically.
“Soto said this forearm issue is “similar” to what he had in 2024 when he missed three games with the Yankees. He returned to DH one game before playing in the outfield.”

In 2024, Soto returned quickly after imaging revealed no structural damage. Recent tests have produced similar results, easing concerns about a more serious issue and reinforcing cautious optimism within the organization and its medical staff.
Since April 22, Soto has appeared exclusively as a designated hitter following a previous calf injury. The Mets have taken a careful approach, allowing him to remain in the lineup while limiting defensive strain and unnecessary risk. Manager Carlos Mendoza has expressed hope that Soto will return to the field soon.
Despite uncertainty, the 2019 World Series champion remains a steady presence in the Mets’ lineup during a difficult start. New York entered play Wednesday at 10–19 following a 12-game losing streak but rebounded with a win in Tuesday’s opener vs. the Washington Nationals. They currently trail 10–2 in the second game, now in the sixth inning.
