Mets’ Bo Bichette already accomplished feat never seen before in franchise history

The New York Mets have waited for Bo Bichette to deliver a true breakout stretch, and Friday night brought something bigger. The Mets infielder accomplished a franchise first while leading the Mets to a 7-5 win vs. the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field.

Bichette hit a two-run homer in the first inning, then crushed a grand slam in the second off Spencer Strider. The two early swings gave New York immediate control and supplied all six of Bichette’s RBI.

MLB’s Sarah Langs took to her X, formerly Twitter, confirming the franchise history behind Bichette’s early-game power surge.

“Bo Bichette hit two homers through the first two innings of the game on Friday

He also did so on May 19

He’s the first player in Mets history with two home runs thru the first two innings of a game multiple times in a career, let alone in one season.”

This note made the performance even more impressive. Bichette had already produced a similar early-game burst May 19, and Friday’s repeat gave the Mets a statistical marker no player in franchise history had reached.

The offensive outburst was also timely for a player still working through an uneven season. Bichette entered Friday hitting .232 through 69 games in New York, making the power display a needed sign for a lineup that needs more consistent production.

The Mets needed nearly all of it. The Braves rallied after falling behind 7-2, but New York held on behind Cionel Perez and Devin Williams to secure the series-opening win.

The former Toronto Blue Jays shortstop’s night also matched a career high with six RBI and included his third career grand slam. For Carlos Mendoza, the performance backed up his belief that better production was coming from the veteran infielder.

The larger question is whether the performance becomes a turning point. Bichette’s season numbers still need work, but Friday gave the Mets a historic reminder of how quickly his bat can change a game.
