Mark DeRosa’s brutally honest Yankees take will catch fans’ attention

The New York Yankees have gotten off to a strong start to the 2026 MLB season, currently sitting at 19-10 and in first place in the AL East by 1.5 games after a recent win over the Texas Rangers. The Yankees’ pitching staff has performed at an elite level so far this season, and the team’s bats are also starting to wake up after an inconsistent start to the year.

Recently, former MLB player and current analyst Mark DeRosa had a hot take about the Yankees’ success in the early portion of the season this year.

“For me it comes down to starting pitching… with Max Fried, Schlittler, on down the line, who they’re getting back healthy at some point. The offense obviously revolves around Judge. Ben Rice has gotten off to an amazing start, but as you sit there last night, I was like, man. Yes, they will go cold at times when they’re not hitting home runs, and it will look flat from an offensive standpoint, but… They look like the class of the American League right now,” he said, per MLB Network on X, formerly Twitter.

The Yankees’ pitching staff has been elite so far this season, with Fried pitching six scoreless innings during Monday’s road win over the Rangers.

As DeRosa mentioned, the Yankees’ offense can at times become overly reliant on hitting the home run ball, which can lead to dry spells. However, when they’re rolling, New York has one of the most explosive lineups in the MLB landscape today, capable of getting in track meets and winning against just about anyone.

The Yankees will take the field for Game 2 against the Rangers on Tuesday evening.
