Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana closes in on another loan move

Andre Onana has agreed to join Trabzonspor on another one-year loan, talkSPORT understands.

Manchester United will receive £1.2million as part of the deal, with Onana’s contract not including a buy option.

The transfer is now being formalised and will see the 30-year-old return to the Turkish side for the second season running.

Onana linked up with Trabzonspor on a season-long loan deal from Man United in September last year.

His switch to Papara Park came days after he started in the Red Devils’ humiliating Carabao Cup second-round defeat away to League Two outfit Grimsby Town.

But despite making a howler shortly into his Trabzonspor debut, he ended up becoming a firm fan favourite.

Onana featured in 29 Turkish top-flight matches – keeping six clean sheets – to help his side finish in third spot.

And he also ensured it was a season to remember after lifting the Turkish Cup as he started in the 2-1 final victory over Konyaspor.

The ex-Inter Milan shot-stopper has recently seen his United salary receive an increase of around 25 per cent due to Michael Carrick‘s men securing Champions League qualification.

But while he regained form and confidence on loan, talkSPORT reported in May how they still planned to offload the Cameroon international this summer.

Belgium shot-stopper Senne Lammens has been an instant hit at Old Trafford since arriving from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.

Second spell

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan will be delighted to sign Onana again after recently declaring he was desperate to keep him.

Dogan told Ajansspor: “I think Andre Onana will stay with the team, we’ve met his financial demands.

“The fans like him too, he’s a decent bloke, I don’t think we’ll have any problems.

“I don’t think he’ll find the same level of interest in him anywhere else.

“So I think he’ll stay with the team.”

Onana’s departure from United follows a host of high-profile names already out the door.

It was confirmed last month that striker Rasmus Hojlund, who joined alongside Onana in 2023, completed a permanent move to Napoli after his loan spell.

Along with Onana and Hojlund, United have also seen six players depart as free agents after their contracts expired on June 30.

They include Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia, while Marcus Rashford still faces an uncertain future after helping Barcelona win the LaLiga title during his loan stay.

Andre Onana’s Manchester United career

Onana arrived at the Theatre of Dreams from Inter Milan in a £47.2million deal – one month after the Italian giants lost to Manchester City in the Champions League final.

But despite winning the FA Cup in his opening season in England, Onana was marred by consistent errors.

From his 102 outings across all competitions, he shipped in a whopping 150 goals – keeping just 24 clean sheets.
