Man United face Brighton in the FA Cup at Old Trafford as Darren Fletcher continues his tenure as interim boss for the Red Devils

Man United vs Brighton predictions

It was only just a couple of months ago this fixture took place in the Premier League.

Man United won it 4-2 with goals from Matheus Cunha, Casemiro, Bryan Mbeumo and for Brighton, Danny Welbeck and Charalampos  Kostoulas.

This could be another one with plenty of goals in it as the teams look for a big cup run to help their seasons, but will it be Man Utd on top again?

Man United vs Brighton betting tips

Welbeck loves a goal against Utd

Interim boss Darren Fletcher will need to play this carefully, but I can see Brighton turning up for this one.

They’ve not had the best form coming into this with just one win in their last five Premier League matches.

This looks like it could play out into a draw, with yet another typical goal for Welbeck against his former side.

But similarly, this fixture was also won by Brighton last year in January in the Premier League, 3-1.

And they are huge value to surprise the new look United without Ruben Amorim.

Key stats

Matheus Cunha has scored in each of his last four FA Cup appearances, albeit they were all for Wolves between January 2024 and March 2025.

Brighton have progressed from 14 of their last 16 FA Cup third round ties which helps the cause here this weekend, even if the majority of those may have been from lower league oppposition.

Manchester United have been knocked out in the FA Cup third round in just two of their last 40 ties at this stage, losing 1-0 to Leeds United in 2009-10 and 2-1 to Swansea City in 2013-14.

Brighton have been eliminated from the FA Cup six times by Man Utd, the most they’ve ever been knocked out by one side.

However, they’ve won three of their last four visits to Old Trafford – all in the Premier League – so perhaps the tides are changing between these two as Brighton continue to develop into an established top-flight side.

  • Bet on Danny Welbeck to score at 21/10 on bet365
  • Back Welbeck and Cunha to score at 13/2 on bet365
  • Get Welbeck to score and Brighton to win at 13/2 on bet365
