Mack Hollins makes Bad Bunny boring by going barefoot, hating vegetables and waging Super Bowl war vs utensils

Mack Hollins might be the only player in the Super Bowl who proudly lists Frank Sinatra as a musical hero.

Hollins definitely was the only New England Patriot walking around barefoot on media night inside a convention center in San Jose, all while declaring war versus vegetables and explaining his personal connection with Australia.

Hollins swears his barefoot act is for real

In a big game lacking big names — Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow weren’t good enough to make it to California this year — Hollins is everything that Super Bowl LX needs and more.

Forget quiet Drake Maye, boring Sam Darnold and Bad Bunny.

Just listen to Hollins own a room, all while being true to himself like few NFL players before him.

“I think maybe the media has seen more of it of me being myself,” Hollins told talkSPORT. “Even when you go back to high school or college guys are like, ‘Max has always been this weird dude.’

“And, realistically, at the end of the day it’s because I’ve been able to perform. If you don’t perform, then you’re just like the guy who just is — he’s a weirdo at the end of the day. But for me it’s like, ‘Oh, he makes some plays on Sunday,’ so it’s like, OK, kind of. But the moment I don’t make plays, ‘Why is he wearing that? Why (doesn’t) he have shoes on?’

A reporter asked Hollins about his supposed mistrust of using standard utensils while eating food.

This is what followed.

Eat with your hands, not a fork

“I don’t know who convinced you to use them (utensils),” the 32-year-old Patriots wide receiver said.

“Society. Hello. That’s why I don’t. Society wants to tell you to do stuff that doesn’t make sense.

“Utensils don’t help you digest your food. Your fingers do. They’ll trigger your brain to start creating more digestive enzymes. You’ll digest better.”

If it sounds like an act, check out Hollins’ Tik Tok page, which has 2.2 million likes, 270,000 followers and personal playlists devoted to science experiments, time hacks, home maintenance and fast facts Friday.

“Him as a person, first off, and the energy that he has in the building — we respect it and we love it,” Patriots defender and punt returner Marcus Jones told talkSPORT. “There’s not a day that goes past whenever he’s not loud.”

If you’ve ever wondered about the best way to clean a showerhead, pull weeds, maintain a garage door or flush a drain, an eight-year football pro from Maryland who already won a Super Bowl as a special teams player for the ‘Philly Special’ Eagles over the Patriots in 2017 is your guy.

“When I won it the first time, I was just a giddy little kid, thinking it would be easy to get here,” said Hollins, who contemplated retirement before embracing a barefoot life that helped save his NFL career.

What does Hollins plan to wear pregame before the Pats face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium?

“Listen, Sunday comes,” said a smiling Hollins, keeping his secret. “Sunday comes.”

What’s been his favorite place in the world, thus far, to walk barefoot?

“It’s called 1,000 Steps in Australia,” Hollins said.

He thanked Melbourne Muscular Therapy for getting him back to the Super Bowl.

“Those are my guys,” he said. “Years ago, I was injured. They showed up to Philadelphia barefoot.”

When another reporter mentioned current pop music, Hollins dialed it back to the 1940s and ’50s.

Old ways are the best ways for this Pat

“I listen to old music, like Frank Sinatra and stuff,” said Hollins, who’s played for six teams since being the No. 118 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft out of North Carolina.

Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?

“I listen to ‘Hurt’ by Johnny Cash. Well not by Johnny Cash, but covered by Johnny Cash.

“I’m heavy on the Sinatra. ‘My Way,’ ‘Very Good Year,’ ‘Summer Wind,’ that’s usually what I listen to before the game. Sometimes I sleep before the game. The action comes when the action comes.”

For a receiver with 127 career games played (53 starts), 208 catches, 2,619 yards and 17 touchdowns, the battle vs veggies never ends.

Hollins hasn’t eat a vegetable since 2022 and he has no problem telling the world why.

“I think they’re a scam,” said Hollins, who insisted that he would only answer non-football questions on media night.

“The quality of the majority of the food that we get isn’t as good as it should be. If you eat vegetables, make sure they’re high quality.”

When Bill Belichick guided the Patriots and constructed a dynasty that belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, ‘Do Your Job’ was a daily mantra and all 53 players were supposed to subdue their individual personalities to create a gritty single unit.

The Pats are back in the Super Bowl for a record 12th time during Mike Vrabel’s first year as head coach.

And a barefoot Hollins is back in the big game by being exactly who he wants to be as a human being.

“You have to live and die by the same sword that you wield,” he said.
