Luke Kornet lands on Spurs’ injury report before Game 5

The San Antonio Spurs are in a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals after suffering a gut-punch 107-106 Game 4 loss to the New York Knicks. While the team focuses on just getting back in the win column to keep their title hopes alive, it appears backup center Luke Kornet is on the injury report heading into Game 5.

San Antonio’s latest injury report reveals that Kornet, who is 30 years old, is officially questionable for Game 5 due to an illness. The Spurs have until 5 p.m. local time (7 p.m. EST) on Saturday to determine Kornet’s official status. Mitchell Robinson is also on the injury report for the Knicks, however, he is already deemed available.

Luke Kornet – Questionable: Illness

The nine-year veteran has been the go-to backup center behind Victor Wembanyama throughout most of the 2025-26 campaign. While he’s only playing about 13 minutes per contest in the postseason, Kornet has played an important role, helping give Wembanyama a breather. Through 22 games played in the playoffs, Luke Kornet is averaging 3. 8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per contest while shooting 57.9% from the floor.

If the Texas native is a no-go for Game 5, then Mason Plumlee would likely step up to replace Kornet in the backup position. There is also a chance Kelly Olynyk could see some playing time as well. But, as previously stated, the Spurs have until about 30 minutes before tip-off to determine Kornet’s status.

Game 5 is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. EST and will be aired on ABC. It will take place in San Antonio. A loss ends the NBA Finals entirely, but a victory extends the series to Game 6, which would take place in New York.
