Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur predictions and betting tips – Spurs under huge pressure

Relegation from the Premier League now seems like a realistic possibility for Tottenham Hotspur, whose confidence was dealt another blow in the Champions League in midweek.

Like their upcoming opponents, Liverpool were also defeated in Europe last time out. Can either of these sides bounce back by collecting all three points at Anfield on Sunday afternoon?

Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur predictions

Tottenham Hotspur fans have grown accustomed to expecting the worst this season. Even so, few could have anticipated their side making such a dismal start to Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.

Igor Tudor’s team no doubt set out to quieten the home crowd and make life difficult for Atletico in the first 15 minutes or so. Instead, Spurs found themselves 3-0 down at that early stage of the contest.

Worse still, their wounds were self-inflicted. Atletico did not even have to work particularly hard to be 3-0 up after a quarter of an hour, and 4-0 ahead midway through the opening period.

Tottenham were not just architects of their own downfall; they were the demolition crew too. Some of their early defending was so poor it would have left the Keystone Cops shaking their heads in embarrassment.

Given they were 4-0 down with three-quarters of the game remaining, a 5-2 defeat was not the worst possible result for Tottenham. Still, it leaves them on the brink of elimination from the Champions League.

Perhaps that is no bad thing. Spurs have a major fight on their hands to avoid relegation to the Championship. Given how catastrophic that would be for the club, Europe is an unwelcome distraction.

The bookies still expect Tottenham to survive, but they are less convinced than they were a few weeks back. The north Londoners have lost five league games on the spin and are now just one point above the dreaded dotted line.

Tudor’s four matches at the helm have yielded four defeats, but it looks like the former Juventus head coach will be in the away team dugout at Anfield on Sunday. However, another loss would surely force Tottenham into another managerial change.

Liverpool also came unstuck in the Champions League on Tuesday, going down to a 1-0 defeat by Galatasaray.

As well as battling to stay in this season’s edition of Europe’s foremost tournament, Liverpool are locked in a four-way tussle for the Premier League’s three remaining qualification spots for next year’s Champions League.

There is still a lot of work to do. The Reds lost their last top-flight assignment to last-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers. Arne Slot’s side are not in a position to take anything for granted.

The same is true of Tottenham, although no one associated with the north Londoners is blasé about the team’s predicament any longer.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur betting tips

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur both need a win for different reasons on Sunday afternoon.

More misery for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur are stuck in a rut and they are unlikely to emerge from it as early as this weekend.

Spurs are in truly dismal form. They have not yet won a domestic game in 2026 and have the worst record in the Premier League in that time.

Their confidence is on the floor right now and they will arrive on Merseyside without Micky van de Ven, one of their more reliable players.

Liverpool have been far from perfect of late, but with home advantage on their side, they should be ahead after both 45 and 90 minutes.

Goals await at Anfield

Tottenham Hotspur cannot be as bad defensively on Sunday as they were against Atletico Madrid.

Still, that 5-2 loss in Spain was not the first time in recent weeks that Spurs have been shaky at the back.

Meanwhile, three of Liverpool’s last five games at Anfield have featured over 3.5 goals, and the other two contained three goals each.

If the Reds score early in this one, the floodgates could open. We anticipate a minimum of four goals in this one.

Ekitike back on scoresheet

Florian Wirtz’s return to fitness is a boost for Liverpool as the run-in approaches, but they also need more from the likes of Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike.

Salah has had a poor season and looks to be coming towards the end of his time in the Premier League.

Ekitike, on the other hand, has mostly been excellent in 2025/26, but he will be a little disappointed with a return of just one goal in his last seven outings.

Facing this leaky Tottenham Hotspur backline is the ideal chance for the France international to get his name on the scoresheet once more.
